Love and Loss
Attraction, attachment, and heartbreak, following one relationship across twenty-one songs and three acts.
The artist
Alex Garcia. Artist and producer. Personal stories made physical through bass music.
The Project
I’m Alex Garcia. I go by artefex.
artefex is my music project: emotional bass music built from memory, grief, relationships, childhood, mental health, and the strange future we’re all moving into.
I’m bipolar and autistic. I wrote 81 songs in a year because making music is how I process things. Ableton is where I turn the pressure into something physical.
My released albums are produced solo in Ableton, without generative AI.

The Name
artefex takes its name from the artifex in Neal Stephenson’s novel The Diamond Age: a maker defined by more than technical skill. The word held the balance Alex was looking for, logic with intuition and engineering with craft.
That idea carries into the music. Systems thinking becomes arrangement. Signal flow becomes sound design. Precision makes room for emotion.
Artist Statement
“Music is how I process what I don’t know how to explain yet. It gives me a safe place to dig through memories and emotions, then turn them into something physical.”
The Sound
artefex moves between emotional rap, heavy bass, trap, dubstep, drum and bass, and cinematic sound design.
Vulnerable vocals become heavy drums. Memories become distortion. Internal chaos gets pushed through low-end sound until it turns into something physical.
The music is shaped by South Florida, the SoundCloud rap era, heavy bass culture, and a growing sci-fi/alien visual world — but the real subject is mental health: what we carry, what we repeat, what we survive, and what we eventually learn to see clearly.

Background
Before focusing on artefex, Alex worked across electrical engineering, automotive systems, app development, and software engineering, including work at Texas Instruments, Toyota, and Microsoft. That background matters here because it shaped how he builds sound: signal chains, systems thinking, structure, detail, and low-end pressure.
